“The darkest hour is just before dawn.”

“From the biggest breakdowns come the biggest breakthroughs.”

“Put one foot in front of the other.”

“Fall down seven times, get up eight.”

You have heard these quotes before, right?

Maybe some #inspo post on the ‘grams?

Don’t get me wrong these little messages can definitely lift you up when you are feeling blue but sometimes they don’t make you want to throw your hands in the air and scream – well profanities?

Is it just me?

Okay.

Maybe it’s just me? 🤷‍♀️

The truth is I have experienced some really tough times over my life – probably just like you. And when the tough times knock us to our knees? Well you know as well as me is you have to to dig deep and find a way.

Why?

Because as the old inspo saying goes “The only way out is through.”

If you have been around for a while you know in October of 2020 I was teetering on the edge of an absolute meltdown and decided that I had to take some real action to give myself an anchor to steady myself in the rough seas I was navigating.

My choice was simple. I decided to read 20 minutes every morning to ground myself, increase my concentration, decrease my screen time and hey – maybe learn something (which is crucial to brain health!).

Over the past three years this habit has evolved. These days you can find me reading, journaling, or listening to a podcast while doing word searches. Trust me word searches + podcasts are like peanut butter and chocolate, they are just made for one another.

So I found myself listening to Hidden Brain this week on How to Break Out of A Rut.

And man did this episode made me think of you, and every single member of our amazing little community

I am not going to give it all away but give it a listen if you have ever:

  • Started a new project or initiative with gusto, only to hit the messy middle and fizzled or rocketed towards completion
  • Wondered why “How come everyone else has figured it out?” (it’s called Pluralistic Ignorance)
  • Beat yourself up because you set a big goal and narrowly missed it
  • Found yourself in a rut that seems bottomless, hopeless and OMG “It it ever going to end…..less

Well love, it’s not you.

And it’s not me.

It’s our pesky brains.

Couple this with social media “comparitis” we have to take some real concrete steps to overcome these feelings of being stuck.

Listening to this episode validates one of my mantras – one task at a time. If I can focus on one needle moving task at a time, pretty soon? Well magical things happen. I bring this into my teaching with my one on one coaching clients and my Bookkeepers Business Incubator students all the time.

When we complete tiny tasks, or implement a new system or nail a new client? These things accumulate – and those wins?

They help grease the wheels, smooth the edges, and bring you the traction you need to get unstuck.

So celebrate something today – in fact tell me about it. Also if you have any great podcasts I should check out, hit reply or send me a DM on IG and let me know what you’re listening to.

Cheering you on & lifting you up mama,

Justine
